About the Event

An addiction affects all aspects of not only the person addicted but all persons around them, especially their spouse.  The divorce rate is alarming, but even more alarming for those couples dealing with addiction.  Often the help is sought during the heightened urgency of chaos for the person in addiction; during the addiction and for a few months after.  But what about a year after?  Or what about the impact on the spouse?  Often, there is a lack of follow through or resources, especially for healing the marriage.  This workshop will review current research/statistics of the impact of addictions, success of marriages in recovery, and impact on the non-addicted spouse.  This workshop will also present a review and application of a first of its kind literature resource, Marriage After Addiction- Take Back Your Life Together.  Participants will learn a 5 step approach for individual, couples or small group therapy.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Participants will learn the current statistics on the impact of addictions on marriages and those of marriages in recovery.

2. Participants will learn how to utilize a specific set of discussion questions as interventions to facilitate a healthy dialogue between addicted spouse and non-addicted spouse.

3. Participants will review how to use the five step approach tool from Marriage After Addiction- Take Back Your Life Together.

Meet the Presenters

Eric Kennedy

My name is Eric Kennedy, and I have been in recovery from drugs and alcohol for 13 years. My life is filled with stories of a past marked by many twists and turns. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned that recovery involves consistently doing the next right thing and embracing practicality on a daily basis. The life I have built in recovery has taught me valuable lessons that have made me a better husband and father. Witnessing the challenges faced by couples, I felt compelled to collaborate with XO Marriage to co-author “Marriage After Addiction - Taking Back Our Lives Together.” I believe that sharing our stories can inspire and guide other marriages towards a path of recovery. I am married to my beautiful wife Kristen and am blessed with wonderful children: Cameron, Christian, and Charlee Kate. Today, I am actively involved in serving at my home church, Stevens Creek Church, and find joy in pursuing my passion for golf.
